History of tarot

Being a person with Mercury in Gemini and the ascendant in Virgo, I have always liked to know new information, but to check where it comes from, to make sure of its veracity and to make sure that it is correct and good to use in practice. Of course, when we talk about Tarot we know that it is part of the occult sciences, that is, it is a hidden field, inaccessible to all people, at least until our century.

I'll start by telling you that it's not known exactly when the tarot appeared in the world. There's a popular idea that the gypsies brought the cards to Europe, but it's known that they only came here in 1417, while the first mention of tarot cards is in 1377 by the monk Johannes from Switzerland in a religious book. He said that these cards describe the social structure and can be used to teach people their proper place in life.

The first sets of cards appear in the circle of people belonging to the upper echelons of society (in royal and aristocratic families) or people with high spirituality.

In 1392, the book set of Charles VI of France appeared. In the accounting register belonging to the king's household, a payment for the painting of 3 book sets is recorded. Other details are unknown.

In 1432, the Visconti tarot card set, an Italian noble family, appeared.

In 1781 the great French philosopher and scientist, Antoine Court de Gebelin, published his work “Le Monde Primitif” (The Primitive World), in which he declared that the Tarot card set is the wisdom of the ancient Egyptians and represents the hieroglyphic interpretation of the Book of Thoth (a secret book written by the Moon god, Thoth, the antithesis of Ra, the Sun god).

Subsequently, great occultists left their mark on the study of tarot. Among them were:

1. Antoine Court de Gébelin (1728-1784)

2. Madame Lenormand (1772-1843)

3. Eliphas Levi (1810-1875)

4. MacGregor Mathers (1854-1912)

5. Arthur Edward Waite (1857-1942)

6. Papus (1865-1916)

7. Aleister Crowley (1875-1947)

8. Karl Gustav Jung (1875-1961)

Nowadays, tarot has started to gain popularity again and I believe this is due to the transit of Neptune in Pisces, but also to the Pluto-Neptune sextile (1950-2030).
